Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

The Empyrean · Book 1

She was meant for a life among books. Instead, she is sent into the fire.

Violet Sorrengail imagined a future built on ink and knowledge, not combat. Forced into Basgiath War College’s dragon-rider training, she must find a way to survive a world that sees her fragile body as a fatal weakness.

Here, the dragons are not waiting to be tamed. They choose who is worthy - and getting close enough to be judged could be the last thing a cadet ever does.

But fire is not Violet’s only threat. Her fellow cadets have their own ambitions, and some would happily remove her from the competition. Others need no reason beyond her family name.

Among them stands Xaden Riorson: ruthless, dangerous and tied to a family feud that makes trusting him unthinkable. In a place where alliances can keep you alive, knowing an enemy should be simple. Violet is about to discover how complicated that certainty can become.

Outmatched in strength, she will need every advantage her mind can offer. Rebecca Yarros opens The Empyrean with deadly trials, dragon bonds and attraction sharpened by danger. Step through Basgiath’s gates, and leave the promise of safety behind.
